SPIKENARD
Spikenard essential oil comes from the Valerianaceae family, the same one from which we get alerian. Both have calming and sedative properties and Spikenard is also anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, fungicidal, laxative and a sedative.
‘The herb affects the three major nerve plexuses – cardiac, solar, and sacral. Spikenard can relax the brain and cardiovascular system, acting as a “strong hypnotic cerebral sedative” and a cardiovascular relaxant’ (American Botanical Council, Herbal Medicine Institute).
Spikenard's sedative properties can be helpful for people with insomnia. It leaves one relaxed, and feelings of restlessness and anxiety fade away. If insomnia is a result of indigestion or stomach issues, it may prove helpful because it improves the function of the digestive system.
Spikenard is used as a sedative and calming agent. A relaxing and soothing oil that helps to relieve stress and promote deep sleep.
